On ten Thursdays over the summer months Schagen is dominated by West Frisian folklore in language, clothing and customs with processions of historic carriages and traditional attire. The weekly market takes place at the same time and the covered shopping centre bustles with life. At the crack of dawn on Thursdays throughout the year sheep are still traded on a clap of hands.
